Day 8 - 13 - Sonora RV Rally

Just a note - you can clink on any picture to see it enlarged.
Also I have posted the days after this 'train day' below.

Here we are in Sonora - a cute little town just outside of the northern Yosemite entrance road - at the base of the mountains.  We are here with our RV club - The Golden State Trackers and joining another RV club - The Apollo Amigos.  Lots of fun activities planned for the next 6 days.

On Friday - we ventured up the 120 to Groveland to a private residence to see the amazing world he has created in his garage.  500' of train tracks, 45 operating locamotives, 280 freight cars, 10 passenger trains and the most intricate display of towns we have ever seen!

Then the night scene.

The Village of Pine Mountain Lake in Groveland

Lunch with RV friends before we head back down the mountain.

On Saturday we went sightseeing north of Sonora - up to Angel's Camp and over to Columbia.

This lake is Lake Melones - a very large lake but the water levels are down over 200 feet!

And Angel's Camp - the home of the frog jumping contest. The record was set by a frog named Rosie the Ribeter in 1986 - she jumped over 21 ft.

It's also reported that Mark Twain wrote his first book here.
It was called "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County".

Another bridge over Lake Melones

Spent Sunday with our RV friends.  We volunteered to fix the Sunday night dinner with another couple - fortunately Debbie is a really good cook!  So the day comprised of breakfast with Dibbie and Bob, grocery shopping, a trip to The Bling Barn (Jan, the one heading up the rally does t-shirt bling) and it is in a barn on their property.  And then off to fix dinner and play games.

On the way to The Bling Barn. - This is Jan's property - beautiful!

Time for bean bag baseball....ladies against men.

I learned real fast that you can't play bean bag baseball and cook at the same time.  I was running back and forth to the kitchen between turns and stupidly sliced my finger with a knife.
Off to the Hospital ER for stitches.

Oh - by the way - the ladies won!!
